Credit Report Issues

Lets face it – a lot of people still struggle with credit report issues.  Some of their own making (hurts to admit it though huh?), however some they had nothing to do with.  In this article, we will provide some ideas on how to obtain information about your credit report, and some ways to resolve the issues you find there.

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in their “monthly consumer complaint snapshot” many people have trouble correcting their credit report issues.  So, in other words, companies wrongfully report credit issues to credit bureaus. Then, when individuals notice these errors, they have a difficult time correcting them.  See the link at the end of the article to get all the details, however the idea behind this post is to help those that want clear up their credit reports do so with the least amount of hassle.

Obtaining Your Credit Report

First, you need to obtain your ***free*** credit report.  We do not mean the “free” that fills your email box with spam. We mean an actual free credit report without all the gimmicks.

This site has been personally verified and does not inundate your email with spam, nor “offer” other “great deals” before allowing you to obtain said report. Federal Law allows you to get a free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each credit reporting company. This one site provides all three in one place.

Resolving Issues In Your Credit Report

Once you obtain this report, you will very likely finds errors – omissions of data that should be there, or more likely, data that should not be there.  How to repair these errors with the least hassle?  We suggest you handle everything online. Instead of calling, waiting on hold, getting disconnected, talking to someone who may not actually care about helping you or providing acceptable customer service, etc.

We did not test the other 2 credit bureau’s – however, we can say that Transunion makes this path very easy and hassle free (well, as hassle free as correcting someone’s else’s mistake can be).  Simply create an account, go through your entire report and click “Dispute” on any information you believe to contain errors, send the corrections in at the same time, and then wait 30 days for everything to process.
